Metro cop knocked down at roadblock

A Johannesburg metro police officer was injured when a car rear-ended another at a roadblock in Roodepoort on Friday night.

Officer John Mahlangu, 44, was knocked down by a red Ford Laser he had pulled over and whose driver he was writing out a ticket for, when a Toyota Venture slammed into the back of it, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

The accident happened shortly before 9pm on Ontdekkers Road, near the CR Swart Road intersection.

Mahlangu was taken to Milpark Hospital with a fractured left leg.

The venture driver was arrested and charged with reckless or negligent driving. Nobody else was hurt.
