Boy drowns in residential swimming pool

A five-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at a residence in Oortjie Street in Wilgeheuwel, Roodepoort, this evening.
The cause of the drowning and the series of events leading up to it remain unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Force inquest investigation.

Common cause information suggests that the boy fell into the pool and was found floating on the surface by his relatives. They had pulled the boy from the water and immediately made the emergency call to Netcare911.

“Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene arrived at the scene to find the sodden boy not breathing and without a pulse. Paramedics immediately initiated CPR, intubating the boy and placing on a manual ventilator while they tried to revive him”, said Jeff Wicks of Netcare 911.

Medics rapidly transported the child to the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg where the resuscitation effort continued. Sadly the boy died shortly after arriving at the teaching hospital.

Another sad story yet not

Another sad story yet not unusual. I think their should be a law that will require swimming pools whether above ground or inground, private or public to acquire pool safety equipment. When I've installed our first pool about 3 years ago, I quickly called and purchased some pool covers and pool fences to protect my kids from drowning and other pool accidents.
