Crime Information Session for Domestic Workers - Sector 4:
In February a Crime Information Session was held at the Strubensvalley Library. All sector 4’s domestic workers were invited to join the first of monthly meetings to educate the domestic workers in the sector.
Domestic workers were taught about basic crime prevention methods to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime: e.g. NOT to open the doors or gates for any person, without confirming with their employer first.
They were also taught the SAPS emergency phone number 10111. During this session a weakness was identified in the fact that not all the domestic workers know there place of employment and therefore cannot supply their address in a case of emergency.
Home owners and residents are urged to please ensure that their workers know the exact physical address, in case of an emergency for example: number 18 Zeiss Road, Wilgeheuwel in Honeydew.
This Crime Information Sessions for the domestic workers and any other workers at residential addresses will continue on a monthly basis.
Any person who requires details regarding these sessions can contact the sector 4 manager Constable Donald Sekomane at 079-895-0685.
Joint Liquor Operation:
On February 26 at 8pm a Liquor Operation commenced with the following departments involved: Honeydew SAPS, Provincial Reservist Task Team, EMS, JMPD, Gauteng Liquor board and LAW Enforcement (Region 5). This operation’s main focus was to address liquor premises in the Honeydew Precinct after complaints from the community.
Four Liquor premises were raided (a shebeen in Cosmo City was closed as it was allegedly operated with a false liquor license and a fine was also given to the owner from the SAPS for selling liquor without a license).
A night club in Randpark Ridge was raided and they received a fine from EMS. Two night clubs in Northriding were also raided. At the one everything was in order but the second club was closed due to overcrowding and two fines were issued, one from SAPS and one from the Liquor Board.
A strong warning is issued to all night club, shebeen and restaurant owners and managers.
There will be a zero tolerance approach from the above Government Departments for non-compliance and misuse of liquor licenses. These raids and visits will continue in order to make sure all liquor premises are obeying the conditions of their liquor licenses.
