Crime Brief - 1 June 2009

HOUSE ROBBERIES: This past weekend saw two house robberies in Townhouse Complexes, which resulted in shootings. In the first incident on Friday at 19h30, in Devon Valley the police arrived at the scene to find the complainant tied up with a gunshot wound. Due to the witnesses being extremely traumatized the exact details of the case are not yet available. We regret to advise that the complainant was declared dead on scene. The suspect fled the scene with a firearm, cash and cellphones. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Investigating Office, Insp. Michael Erasmus 079 889 6518.

In the second incident on Saturday at 20h30, in Little Falls, the complainant was watching T.V. with his wife and his son. The sliding door was closed, however it was not locked. The complainant heard a noise at the sliding door and he went to investigate. He saw suspects with firearms who then opened fire. It in not known what caused the suspects to start shooting. The complainant and his son sustained gun shot wounds and both were transported to hospital. The suspects fled the scene with a handbag. Insp. Simon Neluheni is the Investigating Office and anyone with information is asked to call him on 082 937 5956.

BUSINESS ROBBERIES: This past Saturday night saw two business robberies. The first one occurred at 17h46 at a Business Park in Honeydew. The complainant was busy assisting customers when a suspect with a firearm entered the shop and ordered the staff and customers to lie down. He took cash from the tills and fled the scene. No-one was injured.

In the next incident at 22h20, 15 suspects with firearms arrived at a business premises in Weltevreden Park. They tied up the security guards and proceeded to break into the business where they took computers, electronic equipment etc. They loaded the stolen goods into a number of vehicles and fled the scene.

SUCCESSES: Herewith some of the arrests that have been made in the Honeydew SAPS Precinct for the past week.

3 armed robbers
8 for the possession of stolen property
1 for kidnapping
7 for burglary residential and theft
1 for concealment of birth
1 attempted rape
3 for the possession of drugs
1 for the illegal dealing in liquor
3 for robbery common

On Friday a Crime Prevention Operation (involving members of Honeydew SAPS, Gauteng Liquor Board, JMPD and Region C Law Enforcement) was conducted in Zandspruit Informal Settlement whereby illegal shebeens were raided. This resulted in the arrest of 4 suspects and the confiscation of liquor to the value of R50 000.
