Downward spiral of the Neighbourhood
I moved from a sleepy Eastern Cape town, to Johannesburg (specifically Weltevreden) about 2 years ago and have watched in horror as the area has been reduced to resemble a slum.
I believe the BP garage on the corner of Fern and JG Strydom plays a huge part in this decay. I have confronted the owners about the selling of drugs literally on their back doorstep and they have done everything sort of throwing me off the premises. (The drug dealers are welcome, but a concerned citizen is shooed away!)
I have witnessed children no older than 14 buying drugs there. As well as men in luxury cars on Saturday mornings doing deals!!
The graffiti, fires on sidewalks and loitering has just added to this fantastic neighbourhood going to the dogs.
Please let me know if you feel the same. I would like to do something about this - for our safety and that of our children!
